Most of the time, lies are bad and the person you are lying to will be furious when they discover the truth. However, there are some lies that are worth telling, like the one in this story.
69-year-old Jon Richards and his wife of many years, Muriel, live in Bristol, England. A few years ago, Jon told Muriel he had plans to build a shed in their backyard, so that he could have a place for his woodworking. Despite the story, he had no real intention of building a shed for his woodwork.
Instead, he wanted to build the love of his life a masterpiece from scratch. But this wasn’t something that took him a weekend or two to create – far from it. In fact, Mr. Richards spent nearly three years working on this project in the backyard, and his wife never realized a thing.
However, once she began to see that stained-glass windows were included on the shed, her mind began to wander. Why would a shed need stained-glass windows? But still, she would not be prepared for the ultimate reveal.
It turned out Mr. Richards had not been building a woodworking shed at all. Instead, the tiny shed was actually created to be a chapel. The couple is obviously quite religious and he felt this was the perfect thing to build for the wife whom he loves very much.
He called it the ‘Chapel of the Crosses’ and it is very clearly a tribute to the woman of his dreams and her faith. Mrs. Richards’ usual church was fairly busy most of the time, so this gave her the ability to pray any time she wanted, in the comfort of her own backyard.
All of the pieces for the brand new chapel actually came from parts that were thrown away from other churches in the area. That fact makes it very special and authentic, but also means it likely wasn’t easy for him to create.
Whatever it is made of, the place is wonderful and also pretty large too. In fact, the mini chapel can seat twelve people and the couple sometimes holds their own services as well. In total, the chapel cost Mr. Richards about $15,o00 – but that is a small price to pay for something that would make his wife happy for years and years to come.
This is a testament to a man’s love for his wife and is a truly beautiful gift. Also, the fact that he spent nearly three years working on it and tried to keep it a secret and surprise for his wife is adorable as well. The place is also not only beautiful on the inside, but also on the outside and it makes a wonderful addition to their backyard.
Amen!
