There are so many avenues for creating beautiful pieces of artwork. Some artists use paint while others choose a pencil or found objects. For this artist, he has taken on photography as his medium of choice. His artwork is breathtakingly beautiful and it opens the mind of the viewer to entertaining the possibility that there might be something there that the naked eye just can’t see. One of his latest projects is a series of photos called Stories of the Forests and it successfully captures the magical mystery of nature and haunting spirit present in a quiet forest. Photography is hard. It takes time to master the technology and experience in manipulating each function to get as much out of each image as possible. Of course, even amateur photographers can create nice images, but it takes an expert to capture the masterpieces that fine art landscape and conceptual photographer Toma Bonciu does.
Look at this amazing photo of a forest. This is part of his Stories of the Forests series and it is called Angels Walk in The Forest which beautifully describes the way the leafy path has been illuminated by the other worldly aqua light. The longer you study the piece, the more details emerge. He uses the natural way the trees grow to his advantage in each photo, showing layer after foggy layer of the forest.
Where did this inspiration come from to create such enchanting works? According to the photographer himself, Bonciu explains that he has used the last three years to “recreate the magic land where all my childhood stories took place.”
He goes on to explain, “I grew up in my grandmother’s house and she used to tell me old stories about creatures of the forest and all the magic that happens in the forest when you’re not looking. Have you ever walked into the forest and heard a noise but when you turned your head nothing was there… well, something was there. You just didn’t see it!”
He believes that there is more than one world that exists at the same time. With some processing after his original photos are taken, he helps viewers to experience the fairy tale that can be hard to see. He uses intense colors and plays with the way the light hits the forest floor and bounces off the trees. These beautiful pieces really do look like some mysterious place, another Narnia perhaps. It is almost impossible to not feel a pull when looking at the photos.
Bonciu is also working on two other projects at the same time. These series are called Creatures of the Forest and Mirrors of the Forest and are built upon a similar theme to this one. And he has other works that are just as breathtaking. To see more of his work, and even order a print, visit his website here or check his Facebook page.
