The circus is a magical, albeit strange, place. They’re usually filled with incredible acts, animals, and people. While going to the circus might not be as popular as it used to be, for the most part, they’re usually full of people eagerly looking to be amazed.

That might be how it is with most circuses, but it’s definitely not the case for Gandini’s Circus in downtown Edmond, Oklahoma. It used to be widely popular, but it’s been abandoned for years now. Its total desertion has left people wondering, “Did the circus get bought out? Did the animals die? Did everyone quit? Why did everything mysteriously disappear?”There’s a lot of theories out there, and although it’s abandoned, what’s left there is still incredible…incredibly creepy! A lot of the local residents claim that the site is haunted, leaving the terrifying imagery of ghost clowns and three-headed freaks wandering the premises. What’s left of the circus is technically on private property, but some brave photographers have captured pictures from the rusty gates all the way through the property.

Gandini’s Circus was founded in the early 1900s and it was in business till the mid-1930s. The town of Edmond was its home during the frosty winter months, but the rest of the year the circus would tour to various states. They stored workers, equipment, and animals in Edmond during off-periods.

When Gandini’s closed in the 30s, what was left was purchased and became the Clyde Bros. Circus. Eventually, it changed to the Hagen Bros. Circus, but Gandini’s was always associated with the location.

No one really knows why the circus property was abandoned. Remnants like this desecrated bus only fuel the imagination as to what might have taken place. The graffiti clearly shows that there’s been a number of people on the property since it’s closure, but besides that, the lack of any human presence just creates a more eerie vibe.

The stories that the locals tell only adds to the spookiness. Most of the stories claim that the circus grounds are haunted, mainly by ghost animals and clowns wandering the property. Both of those possibilities are unpleasant thoughts!

Littered throughout the property are animal cages like this. What kind of animals were caged in them? The imagination can create all kinds of possibilities, but no one really knows the answer!

Walking through the circus grounds and seeing all the abandoned popcorn machines, cups, and memorabilia is utterly creepy. Why wouldn’t it all be taken by the circus owners when they left?

Questions like this leave many pondering the story of Gandini’s Circus, but feel free to poke around the site for yourself. Just beware, if you hear the sound of maniacal clown laughter, start running!
