Social media has already been part of everybody’s system. One cannot end the day without browsing Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, and many more. There’s no doubt that whatever people read, hear, and watch on it affects their mental, emotional, and social well-being.
Social Media To Our Mental Health
Social media is beneficial in some ways. On the other hand, there are myriads of disadvantages if we are not using it wisely.
-
Tiredness and Time-consuming
People consume most of their time browsing their favorite social media accounts. Sometimes the essence of sleep is forgotten. We are having too much fun stalking our idols on social media or even watching their social media live. Spending too much time watching chain videos on YouTube too can kill us.
A famous comedian once stated that she didn’t notice that it was already 5 in the morning because she was too busy watching videos on YouTube. See how time-consuming it is?
-
Lower your self-esteem
Why? Simply because there is a big possibility that you will be comparing yourself to other people. Further, it will also push you to become the person that you are not supposed to be. So it is not wise to envy what others have. It seems like we are faking ourselves because we don’t want to be left out in our society.
So if you come to the point that you are becoming this kind of person, slowly stay away from social media. Don’t wait for the time that you will lose a part of yourself. Always remember YOU MATTER.
-
Stress
Certainly, it will cause the biggest stress in your life. You can find everything on social media. Whether it is a bad post or not still affects your thoughts and emotions. Can’t you see it? It takes away your freedom and happiness. Why? Because everything you read, hear, and see on social media affects your choices in life.
Can you imagine being a human-robot? Social media controls you. You sometimes forget to do the most important things in life because you can’t take your phone away from you even for a second. Can you imagine how stressful it feels that even if you eat at a restaurant, no matter how hungry you are, you refrain from eating the food right away because you have to take a picture of the food to upload on social media?
Are you one of these people? Another, for example, is that you will go out for important transactions. You won’t leave home if you can’t get OOTD (also known as outfit-of-the-day). How about mirror selfies? See how crazy it is?
Those are common commotion each day. This time, we need to assess how much social media has swallowed our thoughts and actions. There is nothing wrong with using social media. You just have to be balanced.
