If reading is a habit that you want to try to cultivate, here are some of the practical ways you can do so.
Tips To Cultivate Your Reading Habit
Know Your Purpose
If we want to do something, we should always have a purpose for why we want to do it. (After all, It can’t be an achievement if there’s no goal in the first place). Think of what reading could do for your self-improvement. Think about how it would help you grow in different aspects. Knowing the purpose of why you read will keep you motivated to continue! It will help you enjoy the process and not think of it as something that you have to do.
Set Your Reading Goals
You can start with setting a target goal for yourself. Think of how many pages of your book you should be reading every day. Perhaps go a step even further and set a goal for the number of books you want to read on a yearly basis. Try asking some friends for some book recommendations. Listing possible books you want to read is also a good start.
Set Your Reading Schedule
Just like studying and other chores, reading sometimes needs to be added to your schedule. Try to set a specific time of day for other activities like reading. Do not attempt to read while doing house chores or working. Also, try and put off some distractions while reading. This will help you appreciate your book more and retain what you’re reading.
Find A Reading Buddy
It is always fun to talk with someone about the movies you’ve watched or the travels you’ve had. This also allows the reading to be more enjoyable by adding a social aspect. Get a reading buddy who will encourage you to read more. Try to find good books together and meet after a chapter or two to discuss what you learned or what you liked.
