Remarkable 4-Year-Old Boy Is Feeding the Homeless With His Allowance
We tend to throw the word “hero” around loosely these days. Austin Perine is a true hero — and a superhero, to boot — and he’s only 4 years old. As part of what he calls the Show Love project, the Alabama native uses his allowance to feed the homeless on the streets of his native Birmingham.
The adorable little boy, who dons a cape and wears a shirt that reads, “ShowLove,” was inspired to give back to those in need after watching a show on Animal Planet.
“I was watching Animal Planet, and I didn’t want the mama panda bear to leave her cubs. [If she left her cubs] they would be homeless,” he said.
Moved and inspired — we must remind you that he’s 4 years old — Perine proceeded to give food, beverages, and money to those who have fallen on hard times.
Perine is now thinking even bigger; he wants to reach more than just those in his hometown. Austin and his father, T.J., have launched a GoFundMe campaign in an effort to fund a nonprofit organization. They have asked for $100,000, and as of publication have received nearly $82,000.
“Austin’s Show Love project is a nonprofit movement that will involve traveling and fighting hunger and establishing a facility that will help with food, toiletries, drug rehabilitation, and shelter integration,” T.J. wrote on the GoFundMe page. “The nonprofit organization is called the Show Love Foundation. Austin and I will [get] the facility established, as we will withdraw funds once a week with documentation on how it is being spent.”
Austin fancies himself a superhero — he most certainly is — and calls himself President Austin. What he is, above all else, is special.
