What is archaeology, you ask? Well for those of you who aren’t familiar with Indiana Jones (but who isn’t), he was a fictional archaeologist who went after famously lost gems, like the religious artifacts the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail. While the movies are all about the thrill of adventure, real-life archeology digs are a lot more methodical and scientific. People on the dig survey the area and carefully excavate and analyze whatever they find. Human remains, artifacts and other items from history are typically found on a dig.

What’s so incredible about this field of study, is that the objects found provide us a more informative and intimate look at history, humanity, and culture that otherwise would’ve remained unknown to us. Although such artifacts give us a better look into the world’s past, they prompt even more questions about it.

That being said, why don’t you dig a little through history with us and check out some of the most rare archaeological finds that have ever been discovered…so far.
