Definition of "single-stage" [single-stage]

  • Having only one stage; completed in one operation; not continued through two or more similar stages: used of air-compressors and steam-turbines. A single-stage compressor is one in which the compression is completed in the first cylinder; a single-stage turbine, one in which the steam passes through an expansion-nozle only once.
