How Good is Drinking Lime Water in the Morning
What is the first drink you reach for in the morning? I bet it’s coffee for most of you. That makes sense; a little energy from that caffeine could help throw off your sleepiness. However, warm lime water is an energizing and hydrating alternative that I would expound on today.
For the last couple of weeks, we have been discussing an empowering morning routine as one that sets the stage for the whole day. Self-caring habits that empower you and have you energetically ready for the day include self-massaging your body with oil after you wake up and scraping your tongue after you’re done brushing your teeth.
These small changes toward health and wellness will build up in the course of time. Even if you feel entirely powerless to create a positive change in your own life, you will always have some agency in relation to your wellness. In that light, let’s add drinking lime water to this list of small, healthy rituals in your morning routine.
Health Benefits of Drinking Lime Water
The benefit is usually asked of more than one. Why lime and not lemon? Is lemon water good for employment? Is lime water better? What is its purpose? Let’s expand upon that as well as the benefits of drinking lime water.
Your Gastrointestinal Natural Cleanser
When you fall asleep at night, your body takes all the toxins and pushes them through the GI track. Your GI track naturally wishes to cleanse your system of these toxins via urination and bowel movements.
It’s the lime that speeds things up here. Warm lime water functions like Drano for the digestive system. Think of your morning GI as a clogged pipe. You might start with hot water just to loosen up any stubborn buildup. And when that doesn’t work, lime goes in as Drano, taking all that torrid stuff from your mouth to the colon.
How Good is Drinking Lime Water in the Morning
Did you know it is possible to lose up to a liter of water in sleep? Probably this is the reason why some of you experience constipation, dry skin, or cottonmouth in the morning. Lime water hydrates your body on a natural basis.
This might be hard for all my coffee drinkers to hear, but unless you drink lime water instead of caffeinated beverages in the morning. I am not saying you can’t drink coffee. I’m instead saying that with caffeine, you start your day on the wrong foot by further dehydrating your system. Start with lime water, and once you hydrate, it’s perfectly okay to indulge in coffee or black tea.
Add the Six Tastes to Your Nutritional Diet
Lime water represents the sour taste according to Ayurveda. If you lead an Ayurvedic lifestyle, you will need to learn how to incorporate all six tastes into your diet in order to achieve balance and nourishment.
With it being fall, we are now in the phase when we will be experiencing the effects of Vata dosha. Its qualities include dryness, brittle bones, and even slight clumsiness. Our bodies have to change with the changing O anywhere below, and the sour taste of lime balances the Vata imbalances as we get used to a new season.
How to Add Lime Water into Your Mornings
Having covered all the merits of lime water, let’s go ahead and explore the logistics of incorporating the beverage into your morning routine.
How to Prepare Lime Water:
- Cut a lime into quarters.
- Heat water to the temperature you would warm tea with (170-180° F).
- Pour warm water into a mug or canteen.
- Squeeze a quarter of lime into the water.
- Drink and enjoy the refreshing sour taste.
LIME WATER TIP:
Do make sure your water is not heated to an extent that too hot could scorch or burn your lime; cooking destroys a fruit’s healing properties. I usually combine lukewarm water and boiling water to achieve just the right balanced temperature.
Which is good, Lime or Lemon Water
Is lime water the same as lemon water?
The answer is that both are equally good for you. A lemon water detox will also leave you feeling refreshed and cleansed. However, for me, limes are preferred due to their less acidic nature. My dental colleagues say that too much hot lemon water can bathe the teeth in acid, contributing to enamel corrosion.
If you are more partial to lemon water in the morning, put in slightly less lemon juice than lime juice into your warm water. The lemon juice is a little stronger than that of lime; you don’t need as much to effect a body detox.
And while my friends, if you are to choose between lemon and lime, consider the warm season. According to Ayurveda, lime is cooling, lemon warms. If it’s sunny summer, fresh lime is preferred; if it is dreary winter, fresh lemon sounds best.
I love to have lime all year round, but both of them make for a wonderful morning routine to detoxify and will raise levels of health during the daytime.
Choose Wellness Every Morning It is easy to say, “Oh, maybe I’m just not going to get around to doing this,” when it comes to choosing the right habits for health in the morning~ “I simply don’t have a lime, and don’t have time to run to the grocery store.” But if the right ingredients are not available, surely you will have access to water at a minimum. Even just steaming or hot water does wonders for one’s health, especially when it facilitates digestion. Healthy habits are always possible as you keep building them.
