WATCH: Photographer Assembles the Avengers of Bullying
Lifestyle| | By Brian Delpozo
Since their introduction in the late 1930s, comic book superheroes have often been used as escapist fantasy by children who deal with bullying. However, one photographer has taken things to whole new level, with a photoshoot that casts children who’ve been picked on as the Avengers of Bullying.
The Avenger Kids met the @avengers today at @acecomiccon! 💥 The cast clapped as the kids walked in the room. It was an unforgettable experience! The time and attention the cast gave to each one of the kids meant so much to them. Thank you @elizabetholsenofficial @paulbettany @tomholland2013 @twhiddleston @imsebastianstan and #anthonymackie for the time you took to meet the Avengers of Bullying. Your strengths have inspired these kids to keep fighting for what is right and make a strong stance against bullying.💥 This experience would not have been possible without the generous people that reached out to us wanting to help the kids make this come true. @verotruesocial payed for the kids’ hotels and @jetblue donated flights for all of them! A big special THANK YOU goes out to them! #avengersofbullying #herewecome #avengers #infinitywar #avengerkids #acecomiccon

As shown in the video below, photographer Josh Rossi (who had previously taken photos of sick children dressed as DC’s Justice League) assembled a group of kids who’d been victims of bullying – some of whom had even been driven to self-harm – and dressed them as the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Characters from The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy were featured, including Thor, Captain America, Spider-Man, Star Lord, Draxx, and Gamora.
Rossi shared each of the kids’ individual stories on his Instagram account.
“These kids are brave to put themselves out there and share their stories with the world,” he said. “They are an example of what we can accomplish when we unite our voices.”
In addition to receiving a modicum of internet fame, the Avengers of Bullying were able to meet some of the film series’ stars — including Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddelston, and Tom Holland — at a comic book convention.
