If you have ever dreamed of living in castle, you can now turn those dreams into a reality.
Just outside of Paris, France in Les Trois-Moutiers is an abandoned castle waiting for a new resident. The incredible structure looks like it came right out of a fairy tale.
The castle, formally named the Château de la Mothe-Chandeniers, was first built around the 1400s for the Baucay family. Many families have lived there since, as the castle was taken over twice by the British. The British used the magnificent home for many parties and gatherings during the Middle Ages.
However, the castle was partially destroyed shortly after the British took over during the French Revolution. Luckily, in 1809 a French entrepreneur named Francois Hennecart took it upon himself to restore it and make the structure beautiful once again.
In 1932, Hennecart’s beautiful renovations were destroyed in a fire caused by the central heating system. The fire destroyed many rare books, one-of-a-kind paintings, and antique furniture. To this day, most of the castle remains bare due to the fire.
Even though the castle has a troubling past, it still lets the beauty shine through. The chapel and the spiral staircase were spared by the fire and have kept the essence of the castle alive.
Many people have tried to restore the castle, but none have been successful. At the moment, a small association has taken on the project of attempting to refurbish the castle. They hope they can turn it around and give the castle back its natural shine.
