Holdouts: Property Owners Who Refused to Move for Developers

Progress is an unavoidable part of life. As cities grow, it’s necessary to create new buildings and expand roads. However, said progress can come at the expense of local homes and businesses that have been established for years. Sometimes developers are able to work with locals, but sometimes disputes explode, leading to real estate holdouts.

Many of these holdouts will remain in their homes or businesses as construction begins, and sometimes even reaches completion, around them. However, much like Carl Fredricksen in the Disney/Pixar film Up, they remain steadfast, often turning into folk heroes for standing up to governments and development companies.

Take a look back with us at photos of the most memorable images of real estate holdouts from New York to China. Make sure you SHARE the photos of these real estate rebels!
