Definition of "ette" [ette]

  • A French suffix, the feminine form of -et (which see), retained in French words of recent introduction, as grisette, silhouette, etiquette, palette, sextette, coquette, etc. Some of these have older English forms in -et, as ticket, pallet, or are recently so spelled, as sextet, octet, coquet, etc.
